Default replacing valve body in dodge intrepid

How does the rooster comb (manual shiftt lever) come out. Alldata just says pull the cable off the top, and unplug the range switch connector, move it all the way past low and it should pop out.

Why won't it come out? Is there a snap ring around the range switch connector, I can't see up there, but it doesn't feel like it, plus its moving around.
