Radiator Cooling Fans--When do they kick on?
Just changed out the thermostat in my 98 Intrepid. Upon testing the engine, I noticed the radiator fans were not running with car roughly halfway between Hot & Cold on temp. guage? At what temp are fans supposed to engage? What would prevent them from kicking on? Solenoid? How hard is the fix?
come on with A/C request
@ 212°F 100°C coolant temperature.
What makes them not come on:
- bad fan
-wiring problem
-Relay problem
-power problem IE fuse
-ground problem
-bad thermostat stuck open preventing engine from fully warming up
-a/c inop.
-defective coolant temp sensor.
-engine had not reached request temp
a quick test to see if the PCM is able to turn on the fans is to disconnect the engine coolant sensor. this will put the PCM into limp-in which the fans will automaticly come on. if they don't you need to have some more indept diagnostic done.
