Default 3.2 Heating Issue Diagnosis

I thought I had a blown head gasket becuase whne this thing heats up it heats up QUICK! However, it doesn't always do it. It will heat up quick then the temp drops right back down. It ins't consistent either, like sometimes it will happen going down the road but not others, sometimes it will happen at a stop light but not other times.

Also, I don't have any white smoke or anti-freeze smell. Could this be an electric fan? How could one go about testing that?

how this one would go about testing is I'd use my scanner and read the actual temperature the pcm is seeing, then i'd verify the fan is functioning using my scanner to activate fan control.

May be a false indication. Test the actual engine temp.

which is why I would go about using a scanner to see what the computer is seeing for temp.
