i need help
After you put your key in the ignition...cycle it 3 times to the on position. Dont turn it on...just ensure that you get it to the on position. If it doesn't work in park...put it in neutral. Might take a few times, but it will show up. This is a sure fire way to check for codes...or, if you cant get that to work, you can always go to Autozone and have them throw their scan tool on it to pull and clear codes. Last I heard, they do that for free.
Once you figure that out...you would be surprised how pissed the dealership gets when you tell them what the code was that came up and what it means. 90% of the time you can t-shoot your problems with doing the "Key dance" and be on your merry way. I had 2 Intrepids (2000 and a 2001) and my local dealership would get PISSED if I told them the problem before they could charge me 80$ to run a diagnosis. Give the key dance a try.
Good luck!
