Default Air Conditioner

OK i recently hit 40000 miles. it is hot now up here in Michigan. it is blowing air, it just isn't cold air. my remote starter doesn't do me any good in summer, because it doesn't make the car cold, because the air conditioning is blowing air, not making it cold. my car is a 2002 dodge intrepid SE

have you tried buying a 134 recharge kit from autozone or murrays? that might be all it needs...if that does help, but it goes away quickly again, it means you have a leak in the system somewhere.

hahah i tried that. i bought one form Murray's, used 1/2 of it, because that is where the pressure was maxed, then returned the half used bottle for a full cash return. it didn't change anything other then the pressure. I'm planning on taking to to bell tire to service ti for 55 bucks.

hmmm...thats probably bad....if it wont accept a charge, or if the charge didnt do anything, there is probably a leak in the system...they will probably put the dye into it...and find the leak

evaporators leak bad on these vechiles but if your pressure are good then there is a problem with lost calibration of temp control head. pull hvac control head fuse for 15 mins and reinstall this reclibrates all your blend doors and i have fixed lots of a/c problems on these cars like this. if you ever need help i stay in westlang mi which is not to far away we could met up and i can help if needed.

I have a 93 Intrepid that also isn't holding its R134. Thought it was just an o-ring on the line going into the evaporator, but I decided to have it tested. Firestone on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights checked it and says it needs and evaporator AND a condensor. This thing has 106K on it and dropping hundreds of bucks on it isn't practical, especially since I just sunk a couple Bens on getting the crank sensor replaced

-PS everyone, thanks for all zero of the suggestions on my no-start problem!

Macomb Salvage on Bunert would want $75 bucks for an untested used condenser and nobody has a used evap.
Are condensers and evaporators repairable, or are they basically expensive disposable parts? How hard is the leak to find, and could I just butter it with JB Weld to seal the leak if I find it?

no the condenser and evap are not repairable and jb weld will not seal the leak. they have electronic leak detectors and if you no how to use it they work fairly well but you can also get leak dye and use a black light to find the leak.
