Default Security System Lock Out

Someone tried to steal my 2004 Dodge Intrepid on Christmas Eve when I was shopping. It appears a screw driver was used to jimmy the door lock and pop out the ignition cylinder as it was hanging out of the column. He was unable to steal the car. When I used my key my car would start but after a few second shut down. Is there some built in security which disabled the system if someone has tried to jump start the car without the key. I know the key contains some kind of chip that is part of the system. Does anyone know how to reset the system so the car will stay running?
The column where the ignition cylinder goes appears to have broken parts as well. Where can i get these besides a dealer. The cylinder itself seems okay and I can turn the key and activate the starter. Also where can I get a picture of all the parts of this particular column? Thanks for any help I can get.
