Default 04 Intrepid transmission

2004 Intrepid Police 3.5HO with 74,000Mi. Had complete transmission service and valve body/solenoid changed due to TSB(recommended by dealer and done by them) at 50,000Mi. Got P0700 code and took to dealer. Dealer read the codes from TCM and advised "Torque converter out of range" needs new converter to the tune of $1000.00.
Car is not in limp mode and drives fine. Fluid is full and pink. Any ideas? Suggestions?

P0700 is a generic trans code. You need to get the real actual trans codes to make a valid determination. You can tell if the converter is locking up properly. As you drive down the highway, watch the tach. Hold the throttle steady with your right foot and very lightly apply the brake with the left foot. Don't slam on the brake or apply any brake force. You should see the tach jump 200-300 rpm. That's what I suggest.

Dealer would not give the codes only stated that the code was "Torque converter out of range". And yes the converter seems to be locking up normally.
