2000 intrepid runs then dies
My son has a 2000 Intrepid.
He ran out of gas and it would not start.
I tried turning the key on and off for about 5 min and it finally started.
On the way home the car sputtered and died at a stop light.
Again we tried to start it and it would not start.
tried the on/ off again and still no start.
I have a 1999 concord for parts so I dropped the fuel tank from it and was going to install the entire fuel tank in the intrepid.
/maybe filter/pump\
I went to the car and as soon as I turned it over it started.
Started home and it ran about 5 min then shuts down.
We finally got it home and I can start it, it runs about 5 mins then stalls and wont start again for any where from 3 hours to the next day.
I sprayed gas in the air intake and it fires but wont run, so I figure it is in the fuel system somewhere.
Any help?
I don't have many diag. tools.

Changed fuel pump & filter. No help.
The car will run for about 10 min. then dies.
It will not start for hours after it stalls.
When I crank it there is no fire at all.
After it stalls I would like to check for spark, and fuel at the injectors.
I am getting codes
1684 (I disconnected the battery.)
0320 misfire #2
1389 NO ASD RELAY OUTPUT VOLTAGE AT PCM
How do I check the spark-fuel - the ASD?

First try the relay. Sometimes relays internal resistance changes when they get hot and then fail to operate until cool again. The ASD relay is located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), in the engine compartment. See the fuse and relay layout label affixed to the underside of the PDC cover for ASD relay identification and location
The ASD (Automatic Shut Down) relay is energized when the PCM grounds the ASD control circuit. This voltage is connected through the PCM
See pg 8i-2 of service manual for further operation if needed. You can go to The Holy Grail at the very top of the second gen forum and follow the link to a hosted site where you can download the service manual (note: choose the service manual directory...not the Haynes service directory). You can also find very good wiring schematics in this manual if you need to trace the wires.
One other note...ensure the relay contacts (socket) are clean and free of corrosion as well as the grounds that feed the PCM. If the ground the PCM is trying to send isn't available due to corrosion, that can do it. I believe the main ground for the PCM ASD circuit is the one behind the RT headlight. This ground has had lots of issues in the past. I didn't check the schematics to verify this is the ground source, but it’s worth a quick cleaning anyway. If you need help in tracing the schematic, (after you verify the relay and grounds are good etc), let me know. I will be out of town for the next few days though.
