2003 Intrepid 2.7 O2 sensor replacement help
I have had a CEL code P0138 (Bank 1 sensor 2 sensor shorted to voltage) for a while that my mechanic says is no big deal and to let it go. I, however, can't stand the CEL being on all the time and I think I can change the sensor myself. I don't mind getting my hands dirty so I've done massive amounts of reading online about changing this sensor as well as reading my Haynes manual (which isn't very helpful about location). I thought at first I'd need to raise the car to change it (per Hanyes) but having inspected my engine, I believe it's accessible from the top. The hardest thing to get to seems to be the wiring harness connection.
1st question: Bank 1 Sensor 2: is it the sensor behind the cat on the right/passenger side of the motor?
2nd question: Is the O2 sensor truly accessible from the top or am I looking at something else? It looks to be setting directly behind the cat.
I am a novice but I've been around cars all my life and am definitely up to trying something as simple as this looks. I have changed the coolant reservoir by myself and can name, by sight, most engine parts. I intend to get the special socket when I order my sensor and pray the sensor isn't 'welded' in.
Any suggestions/helps are also welcome.
Thanks,
Serenity
