Computer re-flash
The ecm or what ever it is called in my sisters 2002 Intrepid is bad. I have located them at various boneyards and some have matching numbers etc. Can I just plug this in or do I have to have it reflashed? I have read were I have to have it re-flashed, or the car will not run, or it will just run in "limp" mode, or it will be fine.
Can anyone tell me if I can just buy a used one, install it and drive it or do I have to have it re-flashed by the dealer.
Thanks

It will flat out not start if your car is equip with Vehicle Theft Security System.
Used PCM will work, but you need DRB3 scanner to rewrite the VIN.
just buy a Re-man exchange PCM from these guys.

everything is pre programed, plug and play with Warranty. They are fairly reputable company.

It does not have the factory anti theft. So no matter what I will have to have the VIN written to the used ECM? Money is tight for my sister and I can get a used one for $35.00 from a totaled 02.
Thanks for the reply and help.

If your car has no Anti-Theft, it will actually run with the wrong VIN. HOWEVER, The PCM HAS to come out of a car with NO anti-theft. Other wise, it will be looking for the anti-theft module, and will not start because it can not find it.
that's weird, I thought all the Intrepid has Anti-theft. Does she never has a Remote keyless entry?
