Hey yall, I don't really know where to go from here.

My car won't completely start. It just does the rrrr rrrr rrrr sound, and it doesn't wear down. The battery is brand new (had a new one in there already but traded in for a new one after a contact accident that blew a terminal), the neg. wire is brand new, and replaced the clamps and cleaned the wires. I don't know how to replace the pos. wire to save my life, and I can hear the fuel pump priming when I cycle the car. What else should I look at? I've read the starter could be to blame but wouldn't that wear down my battery eventually?
