Does anyone know what this is, how hard it is to fix, and how much it should cost? My car will turn over but has a hard time starting, and it dies sometimes. thanks

 

Are you sure it's 0016 cuz I have never seen that one and it is not in any of my books. How did you get your code?

I got P0016 Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment ( 2005 Dodge Caravan 3.3 )
Changed cranc sensor .... no results ... changed cam sensor ... the same problem:
Car is starting and going fine to 2000 RPM - after this start chocking ????
Red light is on - steady.. any idea how to resolve ???

 

try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery and let the codes reset. has the engine had any major work done lately--timing belt? also, check to see if your caravan is covered under the 8/80,000 powertrain warranty. if so, you may still be within the window to have the dealer diagnose. i believe there is either a 50 or $100 deductable.
also, after you changed the sensors, did you reset the codes? many times codes need to be cleared from the pcm before they will go away. you can accomplish this by the above method or by taking it to and autozone, advance auto, etc where they have the scan tool to reset the code. hope this helps and keep us posted whether successful or not...

 

At the top of the Second Gen fourm, follow the link and you will find a service manual. The P0016-(CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT TIMING MISALIGNMENT) discription="A rationality error has been detected for camshaft position out of phase with crankshaft." In a nut shell, your timing is out. That would also explain your hard start/rough engine. If you are not sure how to check/fix/adjust this, I'd take it to a shop soon. If the tensioner is bad/loose, it could get worse and cause damage to valves and or pistons.
