engine oil light... please help
My wife just bought a 00 Intrepid. The problem is when the car gets to running temp. and is stopped at a light or stop sign the engine oil light comes on and flickers. As soon as its moving it goes off. The temp gauge never moves though. It just stays at the proper level. The other problem is when the turn signal has been on for a while it stoppes blicking and just stays on. We took it to the shop and they put it on the machine and no codes came up. They even flushed the engine and replaced the oil. What could be the problem?
If its a 2.7 get out of it wile you still can.
Theres probaly something wrong with a sensor related to the oil pump. Also it sounds like alot of electrical issues. Flood car perhaps?

As for your turn signal lights, there is just a flasher unit that has to be replaced. It is the relay that actually interrupts the current to give it the flashing effect. That is a relively cheap fix. (under $15) and as far as the motor goes with the oil pressure light. Does your engine tick? These vehicles are notorious for sludge. If there is sludge in the oil pick up, at low RPM's it won't flow enough oil through the motor. It could also be the oil pressure sensor at the filter plate. Worst case scenario is a cracked front enigne bearing. The oil pump is run off the timing chain and if the oil gally hole gets clogged or misaligned with the crank journals then there is again lack of oil supply to the motor.
No the engine runs fine. Quiet when sitting and power when we need it. Like I said the car runs beautifully. Its just those issues that we're dealing with. I carfaxed it and it said nothing of being in a flood. Any other suggestions?
Had same problem with oil light when I switched to a blended 5-30 motor oil. I than switched to running Mobile Clean 5000 10-30 so the oil sensor wouldn't think the oil was water once the engine warmed up. Have not had a problem since. The blinker sounds like a relay going bad.
I had the same problem with my 99. There is a TSB on this problem, but I can't remember what it was called, however the fix is really cheap and simple. It involes adding a shunt wire to the ground terminal on the oil pressure switch. There is a part available through the dealer that is a "kit" kit for this (less than $30). It is basically a small length of wire with a shunt at one end and a terminal at the other. You simply plug the terminal into the empty space on the oil pressure switch and then use tie wraps to hold the shunt to the existing wire harnesses. This resolved the same problem on my car two years and 65,000 miles ago and still no problems.
I will caution you to never do an engine flush on this motor as it dislodges sludge and plugs the weep holes in the valve rockers. Also only use 5w30 oil and change it religiously at 3,000 miles. I have had two of these cars and the first died around 110,00 miles because I skipped some oil changes and then did an engine flush at jiffy lube. This car died 300 mile later. the second car has 165,000 miles and is still going strong. I change the oil every 3,000 miles or sooner. I never let it go beyond. I hope this helps. If your dealer can't find the part I referenced, let me know and I will go through my files and get you the part number.
