Help on removing alternator
I have a 2000 Intrepid 2.7
and it seems that I have to change the alternator. Once taking the bolts off the area is extremely tight to try to remove. Appears that possibly the power steering pump may need to be removed toget the alternatorout. Anyone got any tips.
Background on this issue.... had the car in the dealership as the battery light came on and then shut down the car. They checked all with their computer and changed a fuse (20amp), replaced air filter & then told me that if it happened again that I may need to change alternator or O2 sensor. I'm trying to do this by myself since the fuse & filter cost me nearly $200.00 oh yeah along with their computer diagnostic.
Any help would be much appreciated.....or if anyone's had a similar problem and has a for sure fix it would be awesome to hear from you.
Thanks

O2 sensor!?? For a bat light? Ok I'd say the alt is on the hit list, but the O2 sensor, even if shorted? What codes were in the comp? Did you try a local parts store (ie Auto Zone), they can check your charging system for free (it might be the bat also...especially if the plates short out due to weak cell walls).
There could be alot causing your issue with the charging system.
1) Start cheap first.Check your battery connectionterminals. Slight corrosion couldeasily prevent thebattery from providing power to the system. Its an easy fix as well. Also make sure all the cables from the battery are not damaged as well.
2) If theprevious does not work yoursecond stepshould betaking the battery and the alternator to Auto Zone, Advance, what have you. Have them check your charging system as said. Most places will do it for free. If the alternator/battery seems to be the issue come on back and let us know whats up.
Best of luck.

Before you remove anything (the bat or alt), drive to Auto Zone, they can do a basic inspection of your charging and starting system (you may have a starter eatting too many amps that weakened you bat so now you can't hold a charge). Just a heads up, they will not be able to load test the bat unless it has a good charge on it, so before you do go, charge it overnight.
