Default OBD II help

Hello, I have a Dodge Intrepid 2000 & It has 90,000 miles, I bought it at 70,000 and have not given it a tune up yet.
my Malufuntion Indicator Light is flashing , I put the key in the ignition and turned it of and on 3 times without startiong my car, and the computer error read gave me two numers P - related. the OBD II codes given were --- : P1684 & P0303. The light stays on solid for a few seconds then dissapears and then comes back on in a few moments but this time it starts flashing and I get an error sound like my seatbelt isnt on or somthing. My catalitic converter seems to be making my car shake esspecially when I am idleing at a stop light.

I looked up the OBD II codes and the P0303 reads my engine emmissions missfires 3 times everytime the light is blinking, and the P1684 i beleive reads Metering Oil Pump Position Sensor Circuit needs to be repaired or somthing!!??!?
I am pressed for cash at the moment and don't want firestone to rape me on repairs.
how critical is it to get this taken care of and what is the basic cost if you could have any idea??

The P0303 is a #3 CYLINDER misfire (this is more than likely the reason of your rough idle). It can be (and more than likely is) your spark plug wire. It can also be a bad/fouled plug or coil pack. The odds of a coil pack are slim because you have no other associated code. As for the P1684 (according to my Actron DTC code look up program for a 2000 Intrepid with a 2.7) is "Battery loss in 50 starts". Sounds like a loose/dirty battery terminal. You can also have it checked for free at Auto Zone (they have a cart they roll out to your car and hook up). They can check your charging system too at the same time.

I am a bit confused about your post. I do not get "P" codes from turning my key three times. I have a 97 and I get the code blinked as a MIL code. The numbers do not go near as high as a "P" code (acquired via a scan tool) such as P1684. The flashing you get when you turn the key should be the code read out (sort of like Morse code, long and short light flashes) each being a 2 digit code.

As for the urgency to fix it, well I wouldn't want to run on 1 less cylinder and a quick wire swap (remove a good wire from another cylinder with similar length and swap with the bad suspect), can verify the problem. The wires for mine cost about 40 bucks. As for a better translation as to the meaning of your other code, I'm not sure as my 97 manual doesn't go this high in the numbers.

Just had a thought, here is a link to a 2002 service manual. You can look up the codes meaning. (I have to be going). https://dodgeforum.com/m_467728/tm.htm

OK, I couldn't resist! I looked it up , here is an exerept:
OBTAINING DTC’S USING IGNITION KEY
(1) Cycle the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On
within 5 seconds.
(2) The Odometer will show the P-code for the
DTC code number. Refer to the Emission section for
the DTC chart for a detailed explanation of the DTC
codes.
(3) If no DTC’s are present, the cluster will display
one of two texts: “P1684” and “done” or only “done”.
²
P1684 is only a status and indicates that the
PCM memory has been cleared within the last 50
ignition cycles and does not indicate a problem.
²
done indicates that NO DTCs are present and
the procedure is complete.
It looks like you do get full codes (not like my MIL codes. Your P1684 (if the same as a 2002) is like my MIL 12. I have ALWAYS had this code (even if I didn't disconnect the battery). I have tried to clean the terminals ect, but this code will NOT cause the check engine light to come on by itself. It is more a nussance than anything. OK, not I really have to go as I am late!!! Godd luck
