Air Conditioner problems '99 intrepid es
My air conditioner no longer puts out any cold air. Everything else about the climate control system works just fine. I only have 49,000 miles on my 99 interpid es and live in a very mild climate so the a/c is hardly ever used. Can I be out of refrigerant with so few miles on the car and with infrequent use? Also, when starting the car cold there is a "slapping" sound coming from the engine. after the engine heats up, the slapping sound disappears. When starting the car when its hot, there is no slapping sound at all.
Could the slapping sound be a belt problem?
Could the lack of cold a/c air be a fuse problem?
Thanks,
Steve

I have a similar problem with my 2000 Intrepid ES. In late 2003 had AC problems and ended up being replacement of evaporator core, then late 2004, same problems (AC running but not cool, added to this a loud sound when compressor engaged.) And it would just stop working for no apparent reason. So we recently replaced compressor and dryer. One mechanic said something about it needed to restart or re-engage the system computer. Today it stopped working again, well it's working, just no cold air.
Any ideas? I'm just going to take it in again (to Dealership)...
Thanks,
Jackie
