Ok I posted before about a shift **** on ebay i was wanting for my automatic. everyone thought it should fit ok, as did i....now i tried installing it today but it doesn't function as i would like (though it looked really nice on). You'll see in the pics that the button for the shift **** doesn't push down far, and there is a big hollow opening where i would assume another part would go to help push down the button on the actually pole insides the shifter to allow it to move to different gears. does anyone have any ideas of maybe something i could stick in that hollow part to make it more effective? i really want to keep it and i love how it looks...i just have to figure out how to make it work well for my car! you can see what i mean in the pics:

i circled the hollow opening part...there's a lot of space inside between where the part in the first pic is covered and where the button on the shift **** is sealed so it can push down against the button...unless most other cars' shifters have a really long button that pushes down, i dunno why this **** was designed this way...but anyways...the pic is sideways but i was holding it upside down so u can see how far out the button on the shift **** goes...it should be sticking out like that when it's not being used i assume, but i'd need something long to stick in there to make that work.
and this pic just shows how far the button on the shift **** goes down when it's to it's lowest point.
Any help or ideas would be very appreciated, especially since i can't return this thing, and i like the design. Hope to hear from someone soon! Thanks!

 

stick a spare bolt in there with the head cut off so that it reaches

 

where could i find that? a hardware store? do they come with heads off also? as you see i know nothing about tools

 

and do bolts come in sizes that thick?

 

well the way i think your problem is that the new **** cant reach the button on teh car, so just think of something that size that you can put in there so that the know can push that down to press the button on the car down
