max fuel effeciency and perhaps max horses?
hey everyone! i was wondering what do i need to get to get most fuel effeciency (ie intake etc.)? and perhaps what are some ideas on how to get the most HP. I drive a 2003 Neon sxt. thank you for any help or suggestions.
alot of bolt ons go hand in hand....they will give you better fuel economy and more horses...BUT most people drive harder and faster after a couple of bolt ons due to the new experience of more power and speed and fun....SO...yeah....thats about it..a UDP migh give you more horses and economy and you wont notice a change in sound so that might work...
lol honestly... i have to agree here... soon as i put a few mods on my car.... my gas milage started to fly out the window..... but then i started using cruise control on the way to and from class everyday which helped out a lot... but if u want max fuel econ. ur not gonna get max HP.... and visa versa...... im not sure about max econ. but max performance..... well without a turbo and staying within reason here... i'd say you will hit a max of 160-170hp which is nice for dailydriving, u can start with a cold air intake, highflow cat., top the cat off with a nice set of borla headers, hmmmm lemme see here what else can we get for you here for not so much $, hmmmmm, oh yea Kapitald said something about the UDP, which im guessing he meant the Lightweight Under Drive Pulley, and i guess just to top everythig off get yourself a set of prothane motor mount inserts... lol yea thats a lot all at once, so just plan it out over some time....
Higher compression ratio (actually the expansion ratio in the exhaust cycle)
lower internal engine friction (special ring and bore material, offset piston pin)
and lower exhaust backpressure
are the key items
that improve both fuel efficiency and peak horsepower.
When turbo-charging is combined with correct gearing for highway cruise, it is perhaps the mod that gives highest gains in peak hp while still slightly improving fuel economy.
A few cheap mods (lowering, taping seams, rear vortex generators)
can slightly improve the Neon's already good aero to 'free up' hp for better acceleration and improved fuel economy.
Low restriction intakes don't improve fuel economy in typical part throttle daily driving.
That is why Honda Insights and Toyota Priuses don't have fancy intakes.
It is a great shame and waste of money that so many suckers buy aftermarket intakes seeking fuel economy gains. The money could have been spent on mods that trully work.
