drum brake... is it screwed?
Hey guys... I need some help quick... so.. being stupid as I am... i took off the rear drum hoping to apply some brake grease to the inner side of the pad and i guess i would test it out by stepping on the brake with the drum off... (bad idea) and so now i have a drum brake that doesn't seem to return to its position and i can't put the drum back on... and also after a few step it squirted some brake fluid out too... so now it's dripping slowly and not returning to its original position... so is my drum brake screwed? I still need my car tonight so i need to get it fix hopefully soon (like in the next few hours). Thanks guys...
any idea guys? and update is that the brake fluid's gone... there's no more dripping and neither is there any in the containter under the hood... so i'm going to have to bike to walmart to get some fluid... but the piston thing in the drum isn't going back into the cylinder... am i screwed pretty badly this time... Alright... it's 9:30pm now and i've been working on it since 1pm... and i finally got it done... piston was stuck because it overshot and was protruding out... so i just pull on it and the whole thing just popped out and i put it back... and i had to bleed the whole brake system by myself.... so that was a PITA.... but i got it done! I think i know the brake drum pretty well inside out now...
well i have a list of ideas that might work lol.first thingsafter u put refill the brake resovior your going to have to bleed ur brakes to get the air out of the brake lines. After that id try turning on the car and see pump to brakes to see if returns to its normal state. if that doesnt work u could try disconecting the wheel cylinder from the brake lines and then push the shoes back togther. then you would have to bleed tyhe brakes again, but just on that wheel.Thelast thing that migh work is looseningthe self adjuster screw and pushing back shoes together.Id start with the diconnecting the the wheel cylinder, and it wwould be easier if u refill the brake lines and bleed the brakesAFTER you get the drum back on. Where is the brake fluid leaking from, the master cylinder. Honeslty its nothing major but its prolly gona be time consuming, youy should also go out and buy a Haynes manl for the neon before you do anything. That will save u time.
