Driving hard good?
I used to never really race my car or push it that hard and I was getting about 24-26 miles to the gallon. However, I have started to push the car a little more, even though gas prices are high, but when I fill it up now I am getting about 7-29 miles to the gallon. I think the neon has some untold secrets [8D]
just dont run it up round 100+ for awhile it will permanently kill ur gas mileage i used to get about 35+ to a gallon and took her out for awhile seeing what she could do and now im lucky if i get 28
Well, when I was running stock, or close to it, 50/50 Highway/City driving would get me about 25mpg, and close to all highway around 27-28mpg...now I installed my Comp 400 camshaft, and when I do close to 100% highway I get about 32mpg, and with 50/50 around 27mpg. Wierd eh?
That means you damaged something.

Best fuel economy for 'normal' gasoline engines
is when the throttle is about 70-80% open
and the pistons are going up and down
at an average speed in the range 800-1200 feet per minute.
(take your stroke and convert to rpm)
Best MPG for a vehicle
is when you drive at slow top speeds
but get up to those speeds
operating the engine at 80% MAP and the right piston speed.
For example
limit your speed to 47 mph
accelerate up to that vehicle speed
with the engine at a vacuum reading of 6-8 inches Hg
at rpms typically around 2000 rpm
{the more closely spaced gear ratios the better}
then maintain the 47 mph speed
with a top gear ratio that 'almost' lugs the engine down
so that it is at 80% MAP and piston speed is not lower than 800 fpm.
We chat about this calmly
but in the early days of World War II
this was a life or death
slavery or freedom matter.
Col Jimmy Doolittle's bomber raid on Tokyo
and Navy flyer Captain McCloskey of Torpedo 8
at the battle of Midway
turned defeats into victories
with knowledge of fuel economy.
McCloskey and his men had the worst airplanes
with the worst fuel economy
of any plane in either the US or Japanese navys.
His combination of duty, courage and science
ought to be remembered on Memorial Day.
