Transmisson question
First I would like to say that by reading posts on this site i have learned quite alot about neons.I have been in love with cars ever since I was littleand now I can actually have one of my own. So I want to do it right the first time and learn alot in teh process, anyways on to thequestions. First off, how well does the 00-01 automatic neon transmission hold up to high power? I was reading about the Civics, Del Sols, and Integras and all of theirs dont hold up to high power at all. So I was just wondering how strong the neons is. I know that a manual is the way to go, but i would rather drive an auto, especially if I can get to where I want to go with it. Since this will be my first car Im not expecting to make it a 11 second car. I would be happy with 13.0 to 13.5. Alsowould the srt-4 neons turbo work on a 00-01, or is there a better, ordifferantoneI should look for?Mydad hasa 85 Buick GrandNational,so I know the basics of how a turbocharged car works, Im not a total noob butI need to learn more.So thanks alot for your help, its much appreciated.

unfortunatly you will not see 13-13.5 times without some extensive work...
The bottom end is good to about roughly 240-260 wheel tourque. Of course this is going to vary between motors and tunes. I ran 244 wtq on a stock bottom end for a long time. I had a good tune and wasn't worried about that power output. Any more boost and i would be asking for trouble.
Now on my 10psi turbo set-up, i ran a 13.5 on a g-tech devise. I personally think these things are absolutly crap, so i don't tell normally tell people that time. I expected a low 14 to high 13 on a real track. I ended up selling the car and moving to Hawaii before i could get a real time.
An average N/A set-up can get you to around 160whp... very rarely do you see more than that. The only way you will see the times you are looking for is with boost. There are currently no supercharger kits available for the neon, so turbo is your only option.
To get to your goals you will need a built bottom end... Although the 3 speed tranny is better for power than the later 4 speeds, your tranny will not hold the power without expensive upgrades. It can be done, but the manual tranny can handle the power.
The SRT turbo/manifold combo will work with an adapter plate made and sold by "mattdog" on neons(dot)org. Send him a PM or look for his post in the group buy section. I was the protoype tester for that adapter plate. It works and is a great piece.
hope my rambling helps... sorry for any typos. (typing fast at work)
