2005 Neon Hesitation / Faultering Engine
Last week I received a check engine light on my 2005 Neonfor a TPS Sensor failure. I checked under the hood, disconnected then reconnected the wires at the sensor and the check engine light went away.
This week when driving to work, I was stopped at a stop sign and accelerated to leave and my car died. Thinking I had been at fault somehow (Stick Shift & Preoccupied) I turned the car on as quickly as possible and left the stop sign. However a few stops down I went to leave another stop and my car engine began fluctuating from 0 to 2000 RPMs. This went on for roughly 5 seconds, up then down again rapidly, until the car snapped out of it and I was on my way. When I got to work I took one of my coworker’s vehicle to the nearest dodge dealer, got a TPS sensor and replaced it in the parking lot.
Thinking the problem resolved I drove home, back to work, home, out and about until today when my car began the same thing backing into my garage. This time I was able to release the accelerator pedal, depress the clutch, and drop back into idle. The car idled perfectly fine. I tried the accelerator again, and the hesitation/fluctuation began again. I turned off the engine, then started the car again and was able to pull the car back into the garage without further incidents. I haven’t had any more check engine lights since the before mentioned, nor did I have any problems when I ran to the store earlier (after thegarageoccurrence).
My Neon has 42,000 miles on it, with regular oil changes and maintenance.
Any thoughts on what to check, and any help with what this problem would be called would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

i had the TPS in the SRT replaced for similar issue, wanting to stall and reving on its own in low RPM range. turns out the TPS wasnt the issue, but the wiring/harness. oh, i also got my plugs/wires replaced free outta the deal (that was the dealer's first attempt... knew that wasnt the issue but didnt argue)
