New engine?
Hey all, I've got a question about engines.
The neon that I have is a '00 Plymouth with about 141,750 miles on it. I want to install a turbo and get boost around 15psi.
Should I have it rebuilt, buy a crate motor, or pick one out of a junkyard? Seemed to me that all the money I'd pour into my current engine would be a waste, and it's got a ton of miles on it.
P.S: I've got an oil leak that I can't figure out what it is. The previous owners had the gasket replaced and that still didn't fix it.
Any help appreciated

I was looking around Howell just a few minutes ago. That'd be the best way to go? I'd like the peace of mind from a new engine but if I can salvage an engine and be in the same position that'd be cool too. [&:]
your current engine will be fine also with a rebuild and will probably be cheaper. In order to run 15psi on that block your are going to need forged internals.
A bottom end kit from modern is only a $1000... should be less then a grand to have a shop build it.

Yeah, the bottom end kit for my current block intimidated me. I'm probably wrong, but it seemed like I'd be putting good components in and engine that wouldn't be as good as a new one.
Are rebuilt engines inferior to remanufactured?

those complete blocks from howell are no different than rebuilding your block... If you notice they want a core in order to make the price a bit cheaper. If you send in your block as a core, they are just gonna turn around and rebuild it and sell it to someone else.
The block itself is cast iron... As long as its not cracked, its as good as a new one.
