Default noise from door(?) help!

My fiance has an '04 Neon SXT. Recently an intermittent noise has started from the driver's side interior. At first I thought it was some kind of interferance in the driver's side door speaker, but it still happens with the radio off, and also when the fade control is set to rear. I think the noise is coming from somewhere inside the door, while she seems to think somewhere from under the dash. The noise is strange, sounds kind of like an electronic buzzing or squeeking. It seems to happen more when the car is accelerating or braking, but sometimes makes the noise when simply cruising on the highway. The noise generally lasts from .5 to 3 seconds. Any idea what could be causing the noise? Anyone else had this problem? It sounds like its coming from the door...but what the hell is behind the door panel that could make a noise like that??

If you have automatic door locks I would get the door actuator. I have a 2000 neon and I had a actuator pretty much die on me. But it onlt made noise when I locked and unlocked the car. Its not hard at all to put in. just pop ur door panel off and its a tight squeeze but it takes about 30 minutes to replace. Thats the only thing I could think of that would cause some noise for you.

Yea check the actuator and just check inside the door for anything loose. Sometimes when people slam the door it will break or loosen something up i there.

Yeah, I thought maybe the actuator or motor as well, but the noise is too electrical sounding to be the actuator making noise, and if it was the actuator moving or motor making noise I would think that I would see the window move slightly. I also don't think the motor would be turning any just by the car moving...I'm lost. I need to just drive around with my head ducked at my knees/below the dash. Big parking lot maybe?

Thanks for the replies though, any other ideas?

I would also check you speakers. If it happenes when your driving its possible it could be your speakers. i would disconnect them and then drive and see what happenes. if the dont make noise when you disconnect them than u may need new speakers. Good luck..
