Is it a R/T or not???
Hey guys, Normally I'm over at the gen 1 side of things, however a buddy of mine just bought a 01 R/T. Heres the deal I read the post that you guys have stickyed that explained the differences of the sxt/es and the R/T and I see all of it on the car. Exept I seem to remember that the magnum moter had Magnum or High Output in red raised letters on the valve cover. His however is black like all the rest I've seen... Soo... I'm thinking that the previous owner swapped out the motor but left the magnum intake and exaust on the swapped motor. And seeing how it doesent have the correct cam, and for that matter head(maybe it does) how would this hurt performance seeing that the fuel table is tuned to that cam??? He also told me that he cant get the thing past 80 mph even if he drops it into 4th. its like theres a fuel cut off or something. Could this be from not having the correct cam??? anyways just wanted to know what your guys thoght???
No the vavle cover is black. Is it supposed to be black??? the magnum intake and exuast manifolds are there and all the other tale tale stuff is there ie...badges, swaybars, better suspention, duel exuast.
The valve cover itself doesnt say High Output or anything (it will be black and say 2.0 like all the other engines, but its also metal, while the regular ones are plastic), its the fuel injector cover that says Hihg Output in red raised lettering. Now how exactly do you know the cam is wrong? The cylinder head should also have a casting on the side that says "R/T", but I dont know if you would be able to see it with everything in the way...
Oh and the not being able to get past 80mph sounds like a really clogged cat, not having the wrong cam...

Yeah just figured out that the 1st gen high output motors had the red raised lettering not the 2nd gen.... And the fuel injector cover is gone. and a crome fuel rail is pressent. dident know if cam was wrong just the 1st gen magnum engine got me confuessed... where would the r/t casting be located on the head ie...back front right left??? Thanks for the help by the way...
I don't think the valve covers are different and here is why...
Here is a 2003 SXT valve cover i sand blasted down to the metal and painted.

and here is the valve cover from a 2001 ACR (magnum) on my 2003 SXT.

they look exactly the same to me... Also, they are all metal under that thick plastic/rubber coating.

The only way you'd be able to tell is to take off the exhaust manifold and measure the ports...

Better flowing head, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold. more agressive cam... better timing curve in the ECU (advanced - not really good for boost). programmed for premium fuel only.
