2000 neon transmission governor replacement DIY?
Hi,
I've been having transmission problems with my wife's 2000 plymouth neon with the 3 speed auto. I brought it to the dealer who told me i need a new transmission governor, and quoted me $750 for parts and labor.
anyone ever do the replacement themselves? does the transmission need to be removed from the car? anyone have a procedure or writeup?
any help is appreciated.
thanks!

i've never heard of that part before... although i'm not really familiar with the ATX transmissions. I would think you'd be able to pick up a used transmission for probably half of what they quoted you.
I just got back from the dealer- i played dumb to see if they'd tell me more about the part. apparently its internal, under the valve body. they recommended replacement of that part and also a flush.
they told me this can be done with the tranny in the car, no removal required. also told me this is not a complete rebuild.
i thought of doing a uses trans swap (can get one for $300) but of course i'd have to do all the work that goes with the swap.
it sounds like if i get the part myself i might be able to replace this myself, with it in the car... anyone have any experience with this repair?
thanks again!
