Default 2003 Neon SE leak

2003 Doge Neon has a water leak on the rightfront passenger side. The water collects on the floorboard. The leak only occurs when the vent selector is on the outside air position. When the selector is in the recirculate position the car is bone dry. I asked my Dodge service manager if he ever heard of this (very young guy)and he gave me a strange look. Any thoughts on a fix for this problem?

My 2005 Neon SXT does the same thing. Water can get into the air box, then it drains out the drain hole into the passenger compartment. Believe it or not, it's supposed to do that! The only solution is to set the vent flap for inside air when it's raining.

The NEON is NOT supposed to do that. Sounds like you might have a backed up drain. Look for a little hose out the bottom in the engine compartment. Should be and Elbow. Make sure it is not clogged. The water should drain from here not into the car as this is what it is for. It is to the drivers side of the HVAC blower fan at the bottom.

Pull the elbow and make sure the case is not clogged as well.

Bill, I don't want to pop your bubble but I don't think it's normal for my passenger side floor board to get flooded during a heavy rain. Thanks for the reply

I checked the drain tube when I first started having the problem and it's clear. I also checked all the gaskets as per Dodge's TSB leak. The T.S.B. deals with a right side leak from the right sidecowl area. Everything was fine. This leak obviously has something to do with water only getting in when the vent is open to outside air. I don't want to take the box apart if I don't have to.

This seems to be a common problem with Dodge Vehicles.

There is a seal on the passenger side Hood Hinge area. If this seal is cracked or broken or missing you will get water in the car every time it rains.
The water runs down the windshield in to the Hing area under the Hood.

You may need to take the hood off to get to the seal. First pour water over the area, if it comes in the car there is your problem.

You can seal it with any water proof silicone sealer .
