Default Interesting 2000 Neon ES Problem

Howdy,
Im kinda new to the car world - learning what I can as I go along..and I have never seen anything like this issue:
Every now and then when I hop in my car to take off, I put the key in the ignition to turn it over and my Neon acts like the battery is dead. I get my click indicating the starter's trying to do its job...but theres no power there to turn the car over...doesn't crank or anything. My keyless entry, dome light and electronics will work until I try to turn the car over....After that they'll remain not working for a couple minutes, but eventually it will turn over just fine. I've checked all my obvious connections (Battery, Starter etc) .. everything is secure. Tested the battery at a local Auto Zone and it tests out good...Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem with my wife's Caravan... even tho it is a 1996 model, probably the same solution..
I also thought it was the battery and since the old one was 5 yeras old anyway, got a new one... still the same problem...
hate to tell you, but it was the starter... replaced and it now works perfect... only lucky thing for me was had a friendchange it for mostly only the price of the part

Thanks Pablo..appreciate the input...It's interesting that it would be the starter...because usually you can tell when they start to get weak / start to fail..but maybe not in this situation...it hasnt happened at all to me today so I guess it's something im gonna have to just keep an eye on...plus the starter on the neon seems to be fairly easily accessable...should be able to swap it out myself. Once again, thanks for the reply!

sure...and that's exactly what the Caravans starter would do...would be fine one day...then once in a while it would act up.... you could turn the key and nothing... try that maybe 5 times, then all of a sudden it would work ...then work fine for another couple days..

..finally, stopped completely... and like I said, lucky for me the friend that fixed it was right accross the street

Might be the alternator, that's what mine was.
