Default turboing help

Ok, so I'm going to plan to turbo my 2.0. Plans keep changing after I learn more and more. And when I find out what would be a waste to buy and what not.

Here is what I have have.
-Swap to magnum head
-turbo with SRT-4 turbo
-Megasquirt

Now, a lot of people say to MS first before you turbo. Do I need to use megasquirt before I start running a turbo car? I know it takes a lot of time to tune if you haven't done it before. I have heard it isn't safe to run turbocharged cars without the proper tuning, is this true? Can I run my car without damaging it without MS? I will get MS either way. But I don't know if I need it the same time I install my turbo.

So just to get my car running and safe(not causing damage) what do I need? Thanks to 03neonrt I have a list. I just want to make sure this is stuff I need and can't upgrade later. Because I will upgrade later.

Also, I heard it can cost anywhere between 1,500 and 3,000 dollars. Does anyone know of a specific part list price? Since a lot of this stuff will be used I don't want to get ripped off on anything. All the stuff I can buy from a store and im not worried about the pricing.

General Components:

1. TD04 Turbocharger
2. SRT-4 Exhaust Manifold
3. SRT-4 02 Housing
4. SRT-4 Front Mount Intercooler
5. SRT-4 FMIC Piping (Hot and Cold Side) – The piping WILL need to be modified to fit around the 2.0 engine.
6. Mattdog SOHC to DOHC Manifold Adaptor Plate

Fuel System Components:

1. Walboro 255lph High Volume Fuel Pump
2. Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator (RRFPR) – Chill Factory, Vortech, BEGI, Cartech, or Equivalent (Chill Factory is the best though).
3. 30lb Fuel Injectors or SRT-4 Stage 0 Injectors (2003). Stage 1 Injectors could work, but they are too large for a low boost application IMO.
4. Fuel Return Line – AaronNeon Return Line Kit or SpoolBoy mod **.
5. AOBE Map Clamp or Missing Link – The Missing Link is MUCH better but the AOBE is MUCH cheaper.
6. Wideband Air Fuel Ratio Gauge (A/Fr) – AEM UGEO or Innovative Motorsports.

Oil System Components:

1. Melling M190 Oil Pump – Not necessarily required, but it has a stronger rotor which is less prone to damage from detonation and failure

**The Following Are the Components Needed For the Oil Return**

(2) Stat - O - Seals (-10AN) (1) A-N Bulk Head 90*. (-10AN)
(2) Bulk Head Nut. (-10AN)
-10 AN Stainless Steel Braided Hose
(2) Straight Hose End. (-10AN)

**Oil Feed Components**

(1) -3AN Feed Line
(1) ΒΌ NPT Male Connector
(1) 1/8 NPT Female Connector
(1) 1/8 NPT to -3AN Adaptor
(1) 1/8 Tee (if you plan on running an oil gauge off the feed)

Miscellaneous Parts:

1. Oil Pressure Gauge
2. Boost Gauge
3. Inline Fuel Pressure Gauge
4. Wideband A/Fr Gauge (previously mentioned).
5. Gauge Pods – I chose the SRT-4 single dash pod and the Modern Performance Dual Pillar Pod.
6. Upgraded Clutch (PT Cruiser Non-Turbo, SPEC, etc…).
7. Manual Boost Controller or Electronic Boost Controller.

Optional Parts:

1. Mopar/Borla 2.5” Cat-back Exhaust (or equivalent).
2. Turbo XS BOV Kit or Equivalent (also need Mopar Block-Off Plate).
3. Megasquirt Standalone Engine Unit (run spark and fuel).
4. Turbo Timer

Thanks so much guys.

wow you did a lot of research i like that. ok you dont NEED to go ms before you turbo, but it is highy reccomended. you are better off learning how to tune it before it is turboed because it is very complicated and its safer to mess up in vaccuum than in boost. also, you dont NEED to swap to a magnum head

well i know I don't need to swap to a magnum head. But I want to. The reasons being they are better and I think 03neonrt said that you lose the speed limiter. And with a turbo that would suck to have one lol.

Ok, maybe I will MS first and learn.

btw, is this a pretty decent price or no? $80 + shipping. It may go up though.

Get the maddog adapter first....that thing is really hard to find. The rest can be found without almost any problems.

I wouldn't go MS or magnum head...

Everyone says MS, MS...and aside from mikey i've seen like 3 others with them?

well I guess the question is...why won't you go magnum head or MS?

The mattdog adapters...how do you find them? lol

Well i just found out that mattdog doesn't make them lol. I also found that they they leave like...no room. Is that a big problem? Sounds like a huuge pain lol.

on the .org Mattdog used to make them, you asked him for an adapter to what ever head you had. However, he STOPPED making them. Last time I heard, all he had left was 2 magnum head adapter plates.

However, you can simply get the turbo manifold, match the ports, and make your own plate (what I might end up having to do). If you know a shop they might be able to do it for you.

Other than that, go around other neon forums and put up a WTB. Just like me....

well...I definitely don't have the tools to make one. I mean...it doesn't seem like it takes a genius to make one but i don't have the tools to do so. Maybe I should just start looking for one. A shop might charge a fortune to make one. They would have to look at both pieces which will be a lot of labor right there. I would probably end up paying like 600 bucks at least. And that would bejust to make one. If I couldn't find one would swapping my head to a 1st genDOHC work without an adapter?

This problem just seems to make the SRT-4 swap all that more plausable. If I can swap for the same price as a turbo that would make more sense. Plus it will be easier in the long run.

the ONLY way you can lose the limiter is if you

1.) use Megasquirt
or
2.) Use a R/T ECU

you would need a MTX to run the R/T ECU as well as the head and intake manifold
Correct me if I'm wrong about using the R/T ECU
