Hello,
Has anyone had experience changing the rack and pinion on a neon? I have an '03 and there is a crack in the boot on the passenger side, leaking fluid. Do I have to change the whole thing? If so, is this something that I could do in my garage - with basic tools? Also, is it okay to drive it while it is leaking like this? I don't want to screw anything up worse than it already is.

you can drive it as long as you want if you keep adding fluid. i have no experience changing this.

 

If I'm understanding you right, your leaking from here correct...?

 

i have had experience with changing these, and it is a very involved process that you will need a lift for,and an impact gun would really aid the process also.

p.s. if it leaks fluid out of the boots it needs replacement, and depending on the standards in your state your car may also fail it's annual state inspection.

 

You dont need a lift or an impact gun...but I will agree that its going to be a fairly involved replacement.
