cool, just an FYI... DSMs are known for breaking down quite often. If modded right they can be a pretty mean car. 7 bolt motors are found in the 2nd gens like yours. The 7 bolt motor is prone to what's called "crank walk". A google search can explain alot more about it. Basically is a factory defect in the design of the crank bearings. The 7 bolts usually walk around 60,000 - 100,000 miles. can be alot sooner, but not usually later.

The 6 bolt motors do not walk. They are found in the 1st gen DSMs. I'd say about 80% of 2nd gen dsm guys swap in a 6 bolt. I have alot of friends that own DSMs and have worked on plenty!! One of the cleanest i've seen is my buddy Zach's who is also a moderator on my forum. He took a GST vert and swapped in the gsx awd drivetrain. Here are some pics...

nice eclipse. i was going to buy my other friends 95 Eagle talon tsi awd staged 3 but i cant afford dat so i just went wit my other friends eclipse.

 

well the reason is turns off is prolly b/c of the vac. leak.... so if i were you i'd find and fix that leak ASAP to see if thats the problem....

I like ecplises alot, I plan on buyinga 95-96ish one. But, not for me for my girlfriend she loves them, it will be pink an green turbo wit automatic. Im just waiting for her to get her L's and get some money to help.

 

as for the vacuum leak, is it an aftermarket kit?? or from the factory?? either way go look for vaccuum leaks off the wastegate, from the heat sometimesthe vacuum tubingwill crack out on ya, if not there go look at the BOV, and the vacuum sourse going to that....

 

They can be fun little cars, but what graphite said is an understatement, these cars are not known for their reliability... well they just plain break down a lot. If you like working on them and upgrading the parts that break, it will work out for you, personally I hate working on them. On another note though, they do quite well in demos surprisingly

 

well it is my project and it is a damn 7 bolt. but oh well. on a sidenote my srt spoiler is gettin painted

 

just to make you mind wonder a bit more... The 4g64 can be found in a Hyundai Sonata. The 4g63 head bolts right on. We swapped on in my buddy's GSX... along with a 60-1 turbo that damn thing spun all four tires well into third gear.

 

so da 4g64 is dat like an upgrade?
