ah!!! help!
P1684 is just telling you your battery was disconnected within the last 50 ingintion cycles. (starts)
I think both you batteries are junk or your connections are. If you terminal connection look good then sand down the posts and connectors a little to give it a better contact area.

does it crank really slowly or is it a normal type of cranking? if the cranking is slow it means there isnt enough juice for the starter to turn over properly.... and also turn off the Defroster as well as the radio if they are on and listen forthe fuel pump.... what also could have happend is you got some crappy gas that could have frozen in the fuel line somewhere... not likely but its a possibility. first thing i would do would be to check all of my fuses and then i would try to jump the car...
you could always try to jump the starter... i don't recomend it but i've done it a million times. Had a junk starter in my 1st gen for a while. Jumped it with a long screw driver every morning and afternoon for a week. My co-workers thought i was nuts. It's also a good way to tell if its junk.
