Hello,

I have a 2001 neon with 60k miles on it. I've noticed that when starting it in the morning there is a knocking sound coming from the valve. After 1 min the sound is gone. I am wondering is that a problem?And can the valve be regulated somehow?

Another thingI notices is that if i let go of the gas pedal(even in high rpm) the car starts jerking. I same thing happensin one particular position of the gas pedal. Could it be the cables??

well, as for the valve it could be one of the hydrolic lifters sticking.... those r not a big deal to fix at all.... just pull the valve cover off and wiggle the lifters.... u should feel if there is play in one of them then it should be replaced.... best to do it when the engine is cold, because it sounds to me like it is still pumping up, but it takes longer than the rest of the 15 valves...... i had to replace oneof mine on my head when i got it built.....

 

Do you remember whether you replaced the intake or the exhaust rocker arm??And what was the reason for the malfunction was it that the rocker arm was worn or the was the oil plugged in some way?

 

Accually they can start to ware sometimes.... mine was the exhaust side, but i did them all while i had it torn down... i had a brand new set so i just did them all.... has ur car sat around a while??? if so it can deal with just sitting around. the head i got built was sitting around for about 6 months till i had the money to get it built..... after i took it off i saw that the car rocker had a small tear in the boot not allowing it to pump up properly
