Default Bad Vibrations....

Hey everyone.

I just bought a 2001 Neon auto with 80k and had a few questions. My Fiancee drives this car mostly so my feedback is limited.

Basically, when you start the car up you get a shutter or heavy vibration in the steering wheel, however, the motor mount looks to be fine.

Second, at speeds of around 70 or more the is a vibration that comes from the rear as you can feel it in the seats. It's not a terrible one, just enough to notice. Could be the tires though they are fairly new.

Just wondering if there were any common problems that might point me in a direction with this Neon.

Thanks for the help.

PS: I haven't done a search yet, have to head out of town and thought I would ask real quick, thanks again!

Jason

This may or may no be it, as I have the same or a similar problem.....if you take your hands off the steering wheel at above 55 when the steering wheel is centered, and it vibrates badly, its bad lower control arm bushings. It turns out that the lower control arm bushings on Neons are made in a way that after a certain amount of miles (for me, this started at 55k miles), the bushings start to come out the top of the lower control arms. If you look at the lower control arms, you should be able to see it.

as for the rear vibs during driving, you might also check to see that your drums or rotors whatever you have in the rear are not warped. also, if you drive through dirt or mud and have a little build up on the rim it can throw the wheel balance off and you can get those vibs as well. as for the vibs durind start up, you can check out your iac valve or maybe you just need a tuneup if your mounts look fine.

PM the motor, plugs, wires etc. As for the high speed vibrations, rotate the tires and see if it changes, if so, balance them, if not start looking at brakes/bearings/axles.
