So, my fiancee's 02 Neon ES has the 4 disc cd changer and what sounds like a pretty nice system, I'm assuming this is the upgraded sound system correct?

Well, the front speakers in the doors and dash are starting to crackle(blown) and the dealership we bought it from said they would re-imburse us $150 to replace them.

What speakers have people succesfully installed in the dash? I know they're 3 1/2" but they're shallow. I don't mind if I have to do a little massaging width wise, just don't want them sticking out.

I plan to add an amp to the speakers and through a 10" sub later down road, just curious who has done what.

And also, is it possible to run an amp from the stock "upgraded" stereo setup, or will I have to lose it and get something that will run with the 4 disc changer?

personally, i would get a component speaker set and install the midbass ones on the doors and install the tweeters up in the dash. they will fit beautifully. as far as an aftermarket amp on stock headunit, get a speaker wire to rca converter. you can splice off your rear speakers and it turns them into rca's for your amp. hook up your amp turn on wire to the antenna motor wire behind your head unit. easy as pie.

if you want to actually control how much bass your sub puts out you will have to get an aftermarket headunit, which will make ALL of your amp wiring much much easier as you wont have to splice into everything and go crazy in the process..........

i definately agree. if your budget allows, you will notice a world of difference with an aftermarket unit.

I would never use the stock headunit. It gives out **** for watts.

if you are looking for an easy solution, just get a set of 2way or 3way speakers for the door. as a general rule components sounds beter as the sound is seperated, but putting a tweeter from a set of components in the stock dash location usually makes them sound horrible as the sound waves travel up to and bounce off the windshield.

you can get a line out converter (gives you an rca connection for an amp) and splice it into the stock radio, but that is another $25 or so for the LoC. the flip side is that you would most likely lose the 4 disc changer control with an aftermarket unit. i would take the $150, add as much as you can andgeta decent coax 6.5" speaker for the door andan aftermarket head unit. if you get an mp3 capable unit you can store more music on a single cd than you could on all 4 that were in the changer.

if money is no object, then copms, new hu, new amps, new wiring, new sub, new fg box, ...... you get the picture
