Default engine out the top?

The books says out the bottom with the trans but has anyone pulled the motor out the top?
2001 with auto trans. Something let go on me. Freeway speed and it layed down so I lifted and wham and it blew a plug out the head. Got to get it back on the road, my Dodge truck is killin me on gas. Thanks for any heads up.

Yes, you can lift the block out the top of the car and it will be pretty easy as long as you have everything dismounted from the engine (transmission/axles, accessories, manifolds, etc...).

accually it comes out the top very easily, just got mine out yesterday..... but like rt said, make sure to have the ps pump, alternator off and it will make it that much easier.... once i had everything thing off and all the bolts unhooked, took me about ten min.... make sure to unbolt the battery tray mounts by ur tranny mount and it will lift right out.....
