what year is your car and what size is your oil pan bolt
drain plug. doesnt really matter anymore the oil pan that i bought from a junk yard had the threades prestripped for me. arent they nice
I have a similar issue. The mechanic said my oil pan threads are stripped and they want $442 to order a new pan and replace it. I've seen oil pans on ebay for less than $100. What are my options though, is there a way to shove a bigger plug into the pan, or would this required some sort of machine to make new threads? If I have to replace the entire pan, is that difficult enough to have a mechanic do it, or should I be able to do it. I'm a bit of a novice as I am the one who overtightened the oil plug and stripped the threads while changing my own oil.

$442 for a damn oil pan! DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that a dealer quote???
If you had the tools and stuff, you could retap and put another plug in there... But... If you were to do ityou'd wanna take it off to make sure there wasn't any filings in there. If you don't wanna do that or buy another pan call your local shops to see how much they'd charge ya to fix it for you... I'd buy another pan just so I knew it was all good to go! Maybe also check the classifieds on the message boards and post up what you need... Or go to a junk yard to see what they'd charge?
