can someone tell me please how to remove the shifter handle on an 05 auto please. i am replacing my center console with a 5spd unit and shifter boot. don't want the lighted idiot unit that tells me what gear i am in. Wife can't drive stick and i hate automatics so this is our compromise lol. Thanks in advance

 

I don't know how to remove the shifter assembly, but I'm someone will say here...
my question is, even tho ya don't like the indicator lights, how ya gonna tell what position the shifter is in?... count the clicks?...and then ya gotta teach the wife that too? I wouldn't even trust myself after a while... sounds like disaster waiting to happen.

another little additional note, I was, for a while, just trying to find a custom replacement for the stock auto shift lever, and never even had any luck finding anything that didn't mean major home-made modifications...

is there not a spot right under the button for an allen wrench or something?

 

you cant put a 5-speed stick in with an auto tranny.......

you have to remove all the screws on the center console (in the cup holders and under arm rest). Pull the E-brake up all the way pull out the console. An allen wrench to remove the handle. then im not sure what size torx but you need one to remove the shifter cover

 

thank you.. i know i can't put the 5sp shifter in my car, all i wanted was the center console and shifter boot with my auto stick. just needed to find out how to remove it to get the leather boot over it/in place. i will try to get it done tomarrow and see how it looks when done.

 

i have a stock 2000 neon shifter looking to install a chrome single handle with carbon fiber for $23 would it be the same install
