Default Weak engine

Hey guys,

yet another problem is added to my '01 Neon SE.

Yesterday, it started having problems. I couldn't go faster than 60mph on the freeway and 15mph uphill. The engine goes to high revs, but the car feels weak and barely goes. Any idea what the problem could be?

I would truly appreciate it.

-Dave

EDIT*

Hey guys,

today, after a couple of hours, I finally managed to replace the fuel pump. Went for a test drive and....

Still the same problem. Did some more inspecting and realized that the throttle plate is not opening unless I step on the gas. Consequently, the engine appears to be lacking air. I'm guessing it's something with my throttle body? Can anyone confirm this? Again, thanks for the responses.

Thanks,

-Dave

It's an auto tranny and no codes are showing up. My dad believes it is the fuel pump going wrong. Is this possibly the case?

Thanks again, fellas.

the PCM might be in limp mode for one reason or another... have you tried disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery and letting it sit for a few hours then hook it back up and start her up and take her for a spin.... see if that fixes it... have you done any mods at all to it? how many miles are on it... just give us the basic info....

I'm on my way downstairs to disconnect it right now. Haven't tried that yet. I'll see tomorrow morning I suppose. No mods on my car. I've already invested enough in getting her to at least be normal. :P

39,000 miles on her. She's an auto as well.

Thanks!

Im assuming you've seen if the PCM was acting up? If that's not the problem, have someone rev the motor while you have the air cleaner off and watch the throttle plate move as he presses the accelerator. Hell your filter may be clogged or something. Alot of times its simple crap like that.

You may need to rebuild/replace the head since you may have faulty lifters, since they are hydrolic... or you may have burnt valves. It could be any number of things...maybe clogged fuel lines, bad gas.

Im assuming you are under a powertrain warranty, I would suggest that if it is a problem with the lifters or anything within your hear or block you may want to go ahead and get those components rebuilt/replaced. Granted you have low miles, random dumb **** happens...

Cheers

Hey guys.

After getting some help from www.2gn.com, I was able to determine what the problem was. Turns out that Catalytic Converter was giving me problems. I can only hope that in the event someone else comes across a similar problem to mine, they come upon this thread and avoid the hassle that I have had to deal with for a few weeks. Thanks for the suggestions from those who have posted.
