First lets try and get some accurate number and not worry about how many miles per tank so much as how many miles per gallon or Klicks per Litre. This will tell you what you are actually doing milage wise. Also need to know if you are using reformulated gas (Alcohol in gas) and Stick or auto.

From previous posts I am pretty sure those gas lights tend to be very inacurate and yes the car dows have a 12.5 gallon tank. So get some actual figures we can really use and lets dive in. Current milage and any work done would also be helpful. Check engine light ect.

Sorry to take so long to reply - been out of town for a few days.
I've recorded every litre of gas that I've put in the car for the last six months. It gets 8.47 kilometers per litre (or 11.8 litres per 100 km's depending on how you do it) It is a 4 speed automatic with the base 132 hp motor. I bought it brand new in Sept 2003. It now has approx 12,800 km's on it. About 80% city - 20% highway. I've taken the car in exactly every 3 months for it's regular maintainance whether the mileage says it needs it or not. No repairs have ever been needed (it's a Chrysler after all!!) The dealer admits it gets very poor mileage but they just keep saying it will get better which is what they have said from day 1. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Your in about that window that you should have the motor bronken in and should get mileage close to what you should expect. You seem to be getting about 19.73 MPG and it is rated at 25MPG City. You have about 8000 miles on the car.

This now leeds to some questions on driving habits. Are you more towards the speed racer type or grandma sally. Do you use the AC all the time? The last question is a loded one as you get AC automatically with Defrost. Do you let the car sit to warm up before driving or just hop in and go? Any hih Power stereo equipment turned on LOUD for the guy next to you in the Benz to enjoy? If you have poor quality gas in your area you may try going up one octane grade and see if it gets better. Normally this would have no effect but if you are getting spark knock it would retard timing and would then have a mileage/power effect.

I would double check all the basics such as throw a new set of spark plugs and due to poor quality of current Champion Spark Plugs I would recommend NGK. Check the air filter for garbage. Use a good bottle of fuel injector cleaner (I am told Mopar has a good one) I have used REDLINE OILS SL-1 personally.

If you have a multimeter you may try measuring the spark plug wire resistance for consistancy. If they are vastly different or open you have a problem. Should be around 6K-12K Ω. Also the spark plugs should be around 6K Ω as well.

After that I would suspect possibly a lasy O2 sensor.

I don't know if it's just me and my Neon, but when I get down to where the gas light comes on and I head to the gas station, the pump seriously always clicks off after only putting 7-8 gallons of gas in there. The gas guage says it's full to the brim. I get about 200-220 miles per tank off of only 7-8 gallons of gasoline. But I just wish I knew why it does that? Maybe I can run really low before really having to fill up and I decide to do it too soon I suppose. I donno, just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Try driving around with the gas light on for awhile. You can drive probably another 50-80 miles with the light on. Then the "you've got almost no gas light will come on". You'll know its on, the little gas pump light on your dash will blink and chime. Seek a gas station ASAP, being that you have about a gallon or so left. I've done it twice, and both times when I got to the station I had only about a gallon left.

I'll give it a shot. It'd be nice to put 12 gallons in there for once. I feel like I'm ripping everybody off whenever I fill up on 7 gallons and the guy with a huge truck next to me is putting like $50 worth of gas in both his tanks
