5spd trans problem

New to posting, been lurking for awhile but now I have a problem that I cannot seem to get a hold on. I lent my 2001 Neon RT 2.0 to my girfriends daughter the other day and I think she torched the syncros in the 5 speed. I sent the car to my friends shop to have the clutch slave and master replaced (since I could double clutch the trans and shift it seemed like the most likely problem) and he called me and told me the trans is toast. Since I just got out of the hospital and am kinda laid up for a few months I didn't want to get involved trying to rebuild one, told my buddy I will just find him a used one to put in. Well turns out I am being told the trans for this car is a one year (2001) and RT only trans and I am not having any luck finding a used one. The local dealer is also kinda iffy as to availability of parts to rebuild mine as it is supposedly so rare. I ran the trans on the Phoenix area hotline and got no answers so I am beginning to believe this is true. Sigh. So any ideas of where to find a good used trans or parts to rebuild mine? Also opinion needed, I was just told that the standard neon 5 speed is the same as the RT, just has different ratios but that it would bolt in and work fine. Maybe this would be a good temp solution?
