Default Brake Issues

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon, no ABS system, 123k miles on the car. The dealer mechanic told me that I needed a new master cylinder. So a mechanic (non dealer) changed it for me. While going over a speed bump, and softly holding the brake, I felt the brake pressure going down. The hand brake comes up significantly higher than it did before the speed bump incident. The brake work was done about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Can anyone tell me what the problem maybe.

Brakes wern't bled properly? New cylinder wasn't put in right?

Take it back to the mechanic and get him to look at it. If he charges you to take a look at it, or fix the cylinder if that was the problem, get a new mechanic.

sounds like your parking brake needs adjusted and maybe your wheel cylinders went bad in the rear. usually only one goes bad, but you should replace both because there cheap and you should never fool around when it comes to your brakes
