Oil Plug Drain Hole

Oil Plug Drain Hole
I have an 01' neon with about 85000. After recently getting an oil
change I was told my oil plug or oil pan hole is stripping out don't remember
which one was the actually problem(Only thought was these guys are just
trying to get more money out of me).
Are neons sit up with a helicoil insert or is the hole tapped?
Is the a common problem?
Also, is there any easyfix for this?
Should I be concerned about driving down the road and the oil plug falling out?

RE: Oil Plug Drain Hole
Not sure on the helicoil insert, but if it's just the plug and not the hole, you can pick up a decent replacement at AutoZone, Oreillys, Advance Auto, or whatever big-chain parts store you have around there.
If it's your pan, then I assume you'll have to drop the pan out. Might be cheaper just to find a pan from a junkyard or something with good threads and replace it with that one (after cleaning it up of course), unless you then want to deal with a helicoil.
Bottom line, if it is indeed stripped I would definitely be worried about either losing oil or losing the whole plug and then REALLY losing oil. Just my opinion if it was me though.

RE: Oil Plug Drain Hole
-Also Find out if they just meant that the head of the oil plug was stripped, not the actual threads. That's a $5 fix. If the internal threads themselves are stripped, then the drain plugmight notbe able to be tightened enough to keep the oil from leaking.
