Default Clutch popping noise

I have a 2000 Neon, the clutch pedal has started to make a popping sound. It doesn't do it in any particular gear, sometimes it does it every time i shift and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. Is this something I should worry about? Does it mean my clutch is bad? Please help I don't want to spend a lot of money if it's not doing any damage.

My wife drives a 2000 base dodge neon and the popping noise is the clutch cable adjusting. You can fix that by spraying wd40 on the clutch spring that comes out of the wirewall. It is built into the clutch cable. You will see it on the firewall by the battery side. Ours looked rusty so I sprayed wd40 on it and it stopped. sounds crazy but it worked for us.

Let me know if this helps?

Had a similar problem... was a snap ring holding back the dust cover where the plunger went into the master cylinder... re-set the snap ring and problem solved... obviously only for those with a hydraulic clutch however.
