possible electrical problems
I have a 2001 Dodge Neon SE with 73800 miles on it. It was a used rental car without any extras that I purchased at 33000 miles from a local dealership. For xmas, my youngest daughter purchased me a generic CD Radio system from Walmart and asked my son in law to install it. I was not aware that he did not know what he was doing. Instead of buying the installation plug kit, he pulled my factory radio out and attempted to hook up the new stereo. He says he did not cut any wires. After noticing he did not know how to wire it in, he put my factory radio back in. When he did, the odometer was flashing "fuse" after first cranking the car, the dome light/radio/cigarette lighter no longer works even though the fuse looks good. A friend put the installtion plug kit on the new stereo and installed it, but it still does not work, and the odometer is still flashing fuse and the dome light/cigarette lighter is still not working. Also, the dash lights had gone out. The fuse was replaced, but it has blown again. I am at a loss as to what to do? and if I have to put it in the shop to fix...is this going to cost me an arm and a leg?
Thanks !!
Thanks !!
He most likely crossed a wire somewhere or improperly grounded it. I dont know for sure where it may have gone wrong but for all future installations Id recomend buying any installation kits possible, especially in the audio department. There designed to make things ALOT easier. I installed all my audio components with kits, they usually come with directions to help also. Your wiring problem shouldnt cost you TOO much to have repaired, especially if its just a grounding problem or crossed wire. Id get an estimate before you had the work done though.
