Default air bag light on

The air bag light has started to come on intermittently in my 2000 Neon ES. It will go off after the engine is started then come back on. It goes on and off but stays on more then its off and it never goes off completely. It doesn't appar to be a short because it isn't dependent on whether or not I hit a bump and I can't turn it off by hitting the instument panel. This wouldn’t bother me but I’m trying to sell the car and it’s the first thing anybody notices when they test drive it. Anything anybody knows that’s easy to look at without tearing into the electical system?

Well without going through the electrical, you probably wont find the problem that easy. I would guess that maybe the "clock spring" in your steering column may have taken a dump on you...

I'll admit I had no idea what a clockspring was but I read my shop manual and if I'm reading it right then if the clockspring was indeed bad then thehorn and cruise control wouldn't work either but they both work OK. Am I intrepreting this correctly?

Possibly, but you said its intermittent with the airbag light, that leads me to believe that you have a broken wire or loose connection. And yes, you can lose all of that if the clock spring goes out... but you can also lose just one of any of those as well. If one connection fails for the airbag, it wont necessarily affect the other components. Not saying this is your problem, but it is somewhere to look...
