how much different is the engine from the 2000 to the 2001+ dodge neon's? can iswap a 2001+ 2.0 magnum dodge neonengine and put it in my 2000 Chrysler neon without any problems?

 

You will also have to swap the ECU as well. Other than that, I cant think of any other major issues...

 

so if i get a 04 neon engine all i would need is the ecu? how about it matching up to the tranny?

 

2004 2.0 non-RT should go into a 2000 with little effort. 2004 RT motor requires the RT ECU as well. 2.4 SRT motor is a whole other story... As far as the trans, I think the 2004 2.0 should bolt up to a 2000 trans no prob, but you may want to double-check that just to be sure.

 

if u go 04 i believe u need da engine wiring harness and ecu for da NGC.

 

You could always hack the harness though and run the motor on the 2000 ECU, couldnt you? I would rather go that route than use the NGC. But I suppose if you wanted to keep things clean, then swapping the 04 ECU with the motor would be the cleanest... but from a performance standpoint, I would re-wire it without swapping the ECU just my opinion though.

 

I'm quiet interested in this. What is the difference between the normal 2001+ 2.0l engine to the magnum one?

 

RT motor = 150 hp, 2.0L standard = 132 hp. RT motor has different intake, different heads and valve timing, differentignition timing curve and fuel map from the ECU, just to name a few. Compression ratio on 2.0 RT motor is 9.8:1, standard 2.0 is 9.3:1, which is the biggest difference.

 

Now how hard is it to find the magnum engine? So it would make a difference going from the 2.0l to the magnum 2.0l?

 

Well theyre not abundant whatsoever, but you could probably find a decent one in a junkyard. A lot of decent scrapyards around the country now have a lot of good late-model low-mile cars. As long as you found one in person and didnt buy it online, you could probably get a half-decent priced one. They didnt make nearly as many RTs as SEs and SXTs, so a good used RT motor would be a good find. Not sure if its worth all that time, money and work just for 18 hp though. I personally would just throw a nice turbo kit on my standard 2.0 for a little more money, for a lot more hp gain, and a little less time.
