my 2 cents...
On the side molding, I did remove mine with no ill effects, but I have a 2004, not too old. Remember, the SRT-4's never came with side molding. SRT= kool.
On the rims, watch for the off-set listed on the rims you want. May not be as critical with aftermarket suspension, but with stock, need to be in the 38mm-40mm only or things start to rub. Also bigger rims look better, but you will get slower acceleration with a stock motor.

+1...
I think the lowest offest you can go is 35mm... 40mm is as high as I would push it. Thats with a 7" wide rim, about the widest you can fit on our cars. That means you will probably want 17"x7" rims, and a good tire size for tha tis 205/40/17... the diameter of those is the same as the stock tires. The 205 width is about as wide as you want to go with it as well. Instead of a 40 profile, you could possibly go up to 45... it will throw your speed off slightly, but not enough to make a drastic difference.

You are one of the lucky ones then. Do you know what your offest is? Also maybe post some pics of the side-profile of the outside of the tires, but from the front of the car (looking straight down the side of the car to see how close the walls of the tire come to the fender lip).
Maybe post a pic of your tire and rear control arm too? Might give a good example of just how tight of a fit 215s can be on a Neon. Im guessing your offset cant be 38 or under, or you probably would have rubbed.
