Default 2002 Neon "error" message

My sister's 2002 Neon displays the message "error" on it's digital trip odometer. Why? What did I do? I'll tell you what I did...I changed the oil and oil filter... I installed a new air filter...and I installed new spark plugs. All good, easy operations. The car runs just fine and everything works. I'd like to know how to remove the "error" message to see if it pops back up. Maybe something is really wrong?!?! Please advise.

Did you try the on/off trick to display any codes?

I did try some things: disconnected the battery; held in the odo resest button while turning the key to on; disconnected the battery and held the key to start position for 20 seconds. I found these tips online. There were more on/off tips that I didn't try though, like doing the on/off thing several times. Strange.

Mine did this and it was the battery.

Clean the terminals, etc

Default good info but...

That's exactly what the mechanic in town said. He's seen battery problems that cause the "error" message just like yours did but my battery and battery terminals checked out ok. He scanned for any fault codes and none showed up. He used a really neat Snap-On scan tool.

Default 02 Liberty - Same Problem

I have an 02 Liberty that's having the same problem. It displays "error" on the odometer. Did you find a solution to the problem?
