No. Thinner winter grade when it is cold. Thicker winter grade when it is hot. If anything, use 5W or 10W in the summer, and 0W or 5W in the winter, depending where you live.

He had it in there for a year but had less than 6k miles? If he does a lot of short-distance driving, that is why it was trashed. 10k miles of long driving will yield healthier oil than 2k miles of short distance trips.
oh well then ill just stay with the 5w-30 just to be safe.our winters can get down to 10 and our summers can get up to 90....i think this year winter we got as low as 6 degrees and summer we got up to like 95..so ugh
